Then I came downstairs and I was like, Lucas, Im never going to get to be Poet Laureate.. And it says, You are here. And I felt like every day Id write a poem was literally putting that little, You are here dot on a map. Ive got a bone. [laughter] But I think you are a prodigy for growing older and wiser. I will trust the world and I will feel at peace. And this time, what came to me as I stood and looked at the trees was that Oh, it isnt just me looking. I feel like the short poem, maybe read that one, the After the Fire poem is such a wonderful example of so much of what weve been talking about, how poetry can speak to something that is impossible to speak about.
